What a great time of year - I just love the cool breeze and the leaves falling in good ol New England. The only thing I hate is raking leaves! We are presently having a fall sale - 10% off all hammocks. You choose the color and style, we'll get it to you!

As I look out my window today, it's dark and rainy, and my hammock is full of leaves....sad to say, some people feel hammock time is coming to and end. For others, they look forward to swaying in their hammock on their sun porch, or even hanging a hammock chair in their basement family room. There's nothing better than the feeling of relaxation you get with a hammock. That's why I feel hammocks are great for all seasons!
Here are some storage tips to keep your hammock in great condition for next season:
- You should wash your hammock before you put it away. You can do this in your bathtub. Use a mild soap, like dishwashing liquid, and swish around to remove as much dirt as possible, never use bleach!
-Wipe the wooden spreader bars to remove any dirt. Rinse it well.
-Lay it out on the grass or driveway or your deck until totally dry. Do NOT store your hammock while it is still damp.
-Store your hammock in a dry spot free of any critters. Our hammocks can stand a lot, but we can't promise you much luck with squirrels, mice and other small creatures!
-Keep your hanging hardware and hammock and accessories all together so next year, as soon as it's time, get it out, dust it off, and RELAX!

I can't believe it - it's October 15th and there's snow on the ground here in CT! It makes me think how I can't wait to get out my cozy wool blanekt and curl up in my mocha colored jumbo hammock! I love my hammock, no matter what season it is, it's so relaxing.

Did you know that hammocks came to be some 1000 years ago? Hammocks have a very interesting ancient heritage. We at ClassyHammocks.com are proud to have a product to offer you with such a rich history.
Most Central American countries, like Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaraqua, El Salvador and Costa Rica, along with South American countries like Brazil and Ecuador have a rich heritage associated with hammocks. It is accepted that the origin of the hammock began some 1000 years ago in Central America by the Mayan Indians.
The earliest hammocks were woven from the bark of the Hamack tree. The Sisal plant (similar to the Aloe Vera plant) replaced the bark at a later point because it was more abundant, and rubbing them against the thigh could soften its fibers. The Mayan Indians designed a web-like hammock which is still in use today and considered to be the most ingenious and comfortable of all hammocks. Check out our Mayan hammocks and see for yourself!

Can you believe it, Labor Day is just about here!! The kids are back to school, the summer is just about over, but, there's still time to get your Jumbo Hammock and relax after a long summer! It's almost the end of summer, and I bet you're wondering....how do I care for my hammock? Below you will find some tips to help you with that!
Cleaning hammocks without spreader bars (Mayan Hammocks).
Machine Washing: Holding the two hanging end rings in your hands, bring them together, folding the hammock in half. Tie the hammock together with string just below the hanging rings. Tie the hammock together again, at the opposite end, and once more in the middle of the hammock. This should prevent the metal rings from becoming entangled with the string bed of the hammock, and the strings themselves from getting tangled as well. Put the tied up hammock into a pillowcase, and tie the pillowcase closed. Be sure to tie it securely, as the washing machine has rigorous agitation, and you do not want the hammock to come out of the pillow. Use mild detergent to wash. It's important to not use bleach. After washing, carefully remove hammock from pillowcase and untie. Hang up hammock and spread out as much as possible to dry completely.

In a large sink or bathtub, immerse the hammock in water mixed with a mild detergent. It's important to not use bleach. With your hands, agitate the water until you feel the hammock is clean. After washing, carefully untie and unfold the hammock. Hang up hammock and spread out to dry completely.
Cleaning hammocks with spreader bars (Rope and Fabric Hammocks).
Machine Washing: These types of hammocks usually have non-removable spreader bars, which makes machine washing not possible.
Hand Washing: Simply lay the hammock on your driveway or deck, any hard surface that is free of debris. Using a bucket of water with mild detergent, and a soft bristle brush, clean the hammock bed on one side, then flip the hammock and clean the other side the same way. This will allow you to inspect the rope or fabric as well. If you see dark, or black discoloration, (mold or mildew) be sure to clean thoroughly in that area. Once you have cleaned the hammock, hang it to dry. This is important, because making sure your hammock is dry is the single greatest thing you can do to insure many years of use for your hammock. Once a hammock becomes wet, the faster it dries, the better it will be for your hammock. Hang it in direct sunlight, as if you were going to use it. Hammocks with spreader bars allow all of the rope or fabric to be exposed when hanging normally. This should allow it to dry in one-two full days.

Hanging Instructions:
1. String up your hammock between any 2 solid points, including fence posts, trees, garage, house, 4” x 4” x 8’ post, etc., using heavy duty screw hooks and / or high test marine nylon rope for larger distances. When hung, a Mayan hammock should have a gentle curve with the center about 2’0” - 3’0” above the ground. For indoor applications, be sure the hooks are inserted directly into the wall or ceiling studs.
2. Hang your hammock in a space at least one to two feet (30 cm - 60 cm) shorter than the overall length of the hammock. The end hanging points to attach your hammock should ordinarily be mounted six to eight feet (1.8 m to 2.4 m) off the ground. You may wish to hang it higher or lower depending on the distance between your supports and on your personal preference. If you have less space, try hanging the hammock higher.
